The last few weeks we have done a major change up with our fishing techniques and it has proven to be deadly on the Snook, Trout and Redfish. We fished Monday the 7th of April and had winds blowing out of the SW so we opted to fish under cover on the West Wall of the Indian River. throwing chartreuse DOA Shrimp in both 1/4 and 1/2 oz we found the fish to once again be very hungry. After instructing clients to target throwing the baits into the potholes that are spread out on the Wall we immediately started hitting hungry fish. These fish were just inhaling the baits and making a run for it. With catching numerous Trout in the slot range we decided to go hunting for bigger fish. We pulled up to a dock where the clients were instructed to work under and the edges, first cast proved fish were holding with a monster Snook rocketing out of the water, however the clients reaction was not quick enough and the fish immediately shot into the pilings with a quick break off. We continued to work the area and found a school of Reds however they were not receptive to anything..they just moved to deeper waters, evidently a sign of a weather change. We continued catching Trout and had a few toothy creatures hit the baits as well. We ended the day with keeping just enough Trout for a fresh dinner that night and released the rest. Just because the fish are just about jumping in the boat is no reason to keep every fish caught..release some for another fun day of fishing the flats.
