Matt and Larry, from New York, joined me for their first of 4 days O.F.F. We've had no rain or water for so long but that trend ended today. It poured all day, and hardly let up the first 4 or 5 hrs of the trip. Much of the morning fished very well, we just had to keep stopping to bail rain water out of the boat...a small price to pay for good fishing we all figured.
Unfortunately with the influx of rain water they opened up the dams on both the bow and the elbow and the river came up 3 feet in the afternoon while we were on the river. During lunch the river came up 8" it was nuts. When the river came up that fast it also got very muddy in a hurry so we traded in the nymph rods for streamer rods and ripped streamers. Larry nailed a nice rainbow on his first cast and was almost a firm believer in streamer fishing but 3 more hours of it only produced 3 fish. Such a sudden change really put the fish off today.
