Today was the last day of filming with the Bean crew and we went back to the mountains for our 2nd day of shooting there. Finally the cures of these cameras seemed to lift as the moment we slipped down to the water we found good size feeding fish. The first couple of fish were feeding tight to the bank and structure and rejected our first couple of offerings. The fish were feeding so subtly that I knew they must be midging so we switched up and I put the midge over the fish and he ate….fish on! After landing the 19" cutty we proceeded to make our 3 casts and switch picking off one 18-20" fish after another. We moved up river and found several fish feeding selectively on midges that we were also able to hook and land. We crossed the river and as the heat of the day hit the water the green drakes started to pop. The next hour was one big fish after another taken by each Tim and I alternating casts. We took some gorgeous cutties and cutbows up to 20" where we even got gorgeous shots of the eat on camera…exactly what we were looking for. Funny how much more relaxed I could be when the type of fish you expect actually happens on film. All in all it was an extremely successful day and a real pleasure to work with Tim and the Barrett Production crew who was filming for LL Bean's Guide to the Outdoors.
