Martin and George came up from Lethbridge to join us for their first float down the bow and were not disappointed at all. The day started with landing a fish still within view of the put in which is always a nice way to start the day. It just stayed productive from there. Pretty much all the fish were taking nymphing so things got a little ridiculous. They hooked one fish after another. Martin and George were both nymphing and both picking up fish consistently throughout the day. The morning started with the fish eating in a big way. The fish had strapped on the feedbag and were going to town. We were finding next to no fish near the banks and we were getting fish on mid river structure and if you fish the mid river structure and if you're fishing a structure that needs to be fished and it was holding fish then you were hooking a ton of fish and that's exactly what Martin and George did. There was a bunch of boats that were fishing banks and fishing other areas and we didn't see many bent rods. The running joke was the rods we were using must have been defective since they had a bend in them all day. Before lunch we went through a run and George hooked and landed a gorgeous 22 inch brown that was thick and healthy so I rowed up and we made another pass. On his very next cast he then hooked and landed a 22 inch rainbow that jumped several times, at least 3 ½ times out of the water. So on two casts he hooked two 22 inch fish, one big brown, one big rainbow, both were thick and chunky and very healthy, absolute prime specimens of what this river is capable of. Pretty impressive when on two casts you can pull in 44 inches worth of trout. That was a nice way to pull into lunch. After lunch we had the only low of the day where we went almost 20 minutes without hooking a fish. So I pulled over and let a couple of boats pass us. As soon as we pulled off the bank again they were into a double header immediately and then the day just kept going from there. They picked up right where they had left off from, hooked fish there steady right into the boat launch. We hooked a fish directly across from the takeout and just lost it as we were rowing across into it. So again it's pretty cool when you can start the day and you can see the boat launch and you got a fish on and you can see the takeout and you got a fish on there too. I'm glad that Martin and George were able to see the bow river for what it is really like and get one of the days that make you keep coming back. I always say this river can make a hero out of anybody or humble anybody on any given day. Today these guys were definitely made heroes by this river so that's always nice.
