Sandy joined me from Ontario today for his first float down the bow river. Sandy is used to fishing the grand river in Ontario. He'd heard lots about the bow and had some big expectations and had to see how the bow was going to measure up. We started early 6:30am, because of how hot it had been getting. The rain that we had yesterday brought the river up a bit and put some color in it so we started fishing hopper droppers tight to the bank, didn't move any fish and changed over to a streamer. Fishing that first bank we fished a streamer on he hooked a nice brown that came off and so we pulled in and we fished that bank with a hopper dropper set up. We worked our way up the bank very methodically and covered the water very well and only had one eat on the surface. We decided to change it up and try nymphing. As much as we wanted to get fish on the surface I was confident that we were going to get more fish if we started nymphing. So we started nymphing and as soon as we did he hooked a fish right away and we landed the first fish on the first cast with the nymph set up. We kept floating, kept hooking fish. I actually started rowing to the shore and dropping anchor to let some other boats get by. I started feeling bad for the other guys cause Sandy was hooking so many fish and no one else was, that I didn't want someone else to feel bad. We let the other boats float out ahead of us, pulled back out and he drilled another fish. Got a gorgeous brown right at the top of one run and then I went through the run four times with him and he hooked fish every single time, it was hilarious. It was almost laughable, every time I went through the run he hooked at least two fish. One time through the run he hooked 5 fish and that's how much of the rest of the day went. He hooked one fish after another, after another, after another. It was an exceptional day out on the water. After lunch Sandy decided he'd landed enough fish that now he just wanted to try and land one a certain way. So we decided to start fishing hopper dropper set up again and we fished that set up through the rest of the evening. It got smoking hot in the afternoon, so the fish started to slow down a bit. We were off by 6pm cause we had to get Sandy to a wedding. Sandy had a heck of a day and got to see what the bow is really all about. Now when he goes home to the grand river he'll have visions of bow river trout in his head.
