Schools out and summer 2021 is here, warm water, beautiful mornings with cool air for an hour or 2 before it warms up for the day, the summer pattern for fishing is usually a better bite earlier in the morning and slowing as the sun gets higher in the sky, catching more different species this time of year in the backwaters of East Central Florida, including Pompano and Permit, Lane and Mutton Snapper, Silver Trout and Weakfish, are some the fish we catch here in summer that are not here other times of year. All the resident year round here too, Seatrout, Redfish, Snook, Black Drum, Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish and others. Best summer baits in the backcountry for variety catching, shrimp, live bait fish, and small lures, some fish feed on the surface early but most go deep as the sun gets higher. Longtime repeat client Greyson from Flagler caught and released a great Black Drum off the bottom in a deep spot ……………
Young Brandon from West Virginia had a fun battle with a good little Permit on his first trip with me along with his family also catching several more species on a fun trip ………………..
Also from Flagler Beach Florida, Al released this good Black Drum after a fun fight on light tackle ………….
Our lagoon Redfish numbers are down from what there used to be, but we still catch some fun size ones in the back waters, Zak from Ohio with a fun size Red Drum ……………..
Jack Crevalle are a staple fun rod bending fish here in the backcountry, Ron from Sanford Florida had a good tussle with this one, then a photo and release …………..
