This month was a bit on the windy side. Like the rest of the country we here in Florida have really been through a strange year so far weather wise. The month of June always turns up a notch fishing wise as the Big Redfish really start to eat in preparation to fatten up for winter to come. The following months of June July and August have historically been good months catching wise for us. Snook also get into the mix as the prime months of the Summer turn on the feeding alarm for them. Tarpon finally show up for us as well.
In short we are approaching some of the best fishing our area has to offer and it is going to be a real treat taking you folks out there to land a trophy of your life. Just remember that half of the trip is your adventure and the fishing and catching just gets in the way.
Now as far as the past few weeks have been… here is a little recap for you.
Lately the day has started out a little windy so we have focused on finding protected waters like along the backs of Islands or shore lines. In these areas we are finding smaller Reds in the 5-7 pound range , some in schools and many in single formation looking for a easy meal. "This is where you come in", Make the cast on target and land the fish. ON the flats we are finding some really nice fish in the 10-20 pound range when the winds allow us the get out there. Big Trout are in areas like grassy flats with sand or pot holes where they can hide on the edges of them and ambush the bait. Top water plugs have worked the best. The Reds are coming mostly on Live Shrimp and Pin fish. The artificials I have found best have been the Rip Tide 4 inch mullet in New Penny rigged on a Mission Fishin weed-less jig head. Snook are hitting the Mirror Lure MR 17, white body with a red head.
In closing that's all I have for now and hope this has helped.
Areas to focus on are:
(1) Black point to Marsh Bay along the shore lines for Big Trout in the sand holes.
(2) In front of Cucumber Island (East Side) for Reds out of the wind.
(3) Cocoa beach's Ramp Road in the Canals near Minute Man for Snook.
(4) Sebastian River For small to Medium Tarpon.
I will be making a trip down South this week to explore the Tarpon and Snook bite and will let you know how it was. Good fishing to you all and catch and release.
