Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 12/29/07
Water Temperature Main Channel 54 degrees
Water Temperature Creeks 50 degrees
I only spent a couple of days on the water this week, as I was caught up in the holiday spirit, doing all that stuff I should do! Anyways the fishing was just fair, I put 6 bass in the boat one day and 9 the next, and only was on the water for a total of 5 hours. Nothing weighing in at more than about 3 maybe 4 pounds. I just spent enough time to stay on the fishing pattern for so up-coming trips.
The lake water is extremely clear and the fish very lethargic, so you had to find some stained water to find the active bass. I spent most of the time fishing 10 to 15 feet of water, in the mid to lower part of the lake. Most fish were caught on Tight-Line Jigs blue and red with a bright blue trailers ¼ oz. And a small finesse worm in dark green.
With the lake so clear I felt like I had to get deeper to find the active bass; I really didn't try some of the baits like jerk-baits that might have brought a shallower bite because of the clear water and the floating grass which is extremely thick in some areas making it very difficult to work a bait.
Were are going to see some marked improvement as we get into January and I expect the fishing to be a lot of fun as we move toward spring.
