Warm weather is taking its toll on the shorelines of Kabetogama and Namakan. The lakes still have between 20-25" of ice as of last Saturday, but the shoreline water will be difficult to navigate as the week rolls on.
The Ash River/Sullivan Bay area may provide some early crappie fishing depending on ice out. The river and Sullivan Bay generally experiences ice out 5-7 days ahead of the big lakes.
Water levels are improving, but expect lower water levels than normal for opener.
Lower water level years do tend to aid walleye spawning, but we still need some rain.
