Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report 1/29/07
A full week of normal temperatures and little snow leaves the ice surface in great shape for ice travel.
Ice anglers are showing up by the numbers in all areas of the lakes, success has varied from spot to spot and time of day.
The afternoon bite, around 4:15pm til 5pm, was last weekends most productive time. The more common depth for walleyes, perch and sauger bite has been 28-32'.
Minnows jigged just up off the bottom will be your best presentation for walleyes, followed by 6- 10' off the bottom for crappies.
Light northern suckers with tip-ups working great for pike. Shallower waters at 12-16' plain hook your best presentation.
The Ash River/Kabetogama area has been a popular location, but anglers venturing out to some of the summer fished reefs are finding some success.
The Martin Island reefs, as well as those off Chase Island have attracted some anglers, but action has been slow.
Look for one of your hot spots and give it a try - have FUN!
