Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report 10/13/08
Some windy, wet weather disappointed the anglers spirits, but the Walleye bite turned that around for those that got on the lakes.
Kabetogama and Namakan are still lurking with hungry walleyes which is evidenced by their attack on jigs and minnows.
The most solid bite is at or around 30', shoreline structures have the edge over reefs and light colored jigs, white, chartreuse or silver seem to be the most consistent color choice.
Northern pike prefer live bait, sucker minnows with a good heavy bobber. Choose soft bottom weedy bays.
No word on lake turnover, but last weeks cool weather and wind might have started the process.
Lake levels still high, as above average rainfalls keep repeating their pattern.
Make sure your fishing travels include a map since the rock markers have been removed.
Crappie action remains slow with best possibilities in Namakan.
Grouse hunters report that the season is improving as the cover lessens.
Bear season closes, with the kill percentage matching last years. Less licenses, less bears taken.
Early reports from the DNR, netting and shocking sampling indicates next years fishing should remain strong, no word yet on the 2008 class future.
