Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report May 26, 2008
Holy Cow! What a week and weekend; with picture-book weather--80 degrees on Sunday. Anglers found cooperating walleyes and saugers most of the week, with a let-up on Sunday.
The larger female walleyes seem to have moved out to deeper water, while their male counterparts came in out of the deep, 35' plus depths.
The spawning and post-spawn transition has scattered the fish but the bite has remained strong.
Northern pike anglers have had some disappointment, catching mostly smaller pike. The larger pike will be emerging in and near the weedy bays now that the water is warming.
Water temperatures in the beginning of the week were 45-47 degrees and on Sunday, they were approaching the mid-50 degrees.
Crappies should be moving in by the time this publication is read. Sullivan Bay, Lost Bay, and Lost Lake are a few popular spots.
Walleyes should be caught off this week on leeches or minnows. Slip bobbering with minnows, slip sinker rigs, or jig and minnow should produce good action.
Suggested depths would be morning and evening in shallow, 8-12'; mid-day or bright sunny days, try 20-28', reef edges or structure shorelines.
Have a Great Day!
