Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report 9/29/08

Fall is settling in and the leaves are turning to brilliant amber shades.

Anglers are enjoying the fall colors from the water while at the same time they are reeling in walleyes.

A bonafide walleye bite remains strong as the temperatures drop. Ball head jigs and minnow is the preferred presentation.

This past week windblown shorelines were your best place to do your stuff, drifting from 26-35'. A few die hards' still using lures and picking up a fish occasionally at 15-20'.

Northern pike on the quiet side, however, they are attracted to sucker minnows. Your best bet for these girls will be in weedy bays that have current flows, try Lost Bay, Daily Bay, Mud Bay and in Namakan – Junction Bay.

Crappies showing up in some typical fall locations, but quantities are small. Anglers report very spotty action and most locations only giving up a few fish, keeping anglers on the move.

Bear season is winding down with an occasional registration. Grouse hunters still disappointed with the limited success, due to heavy cover.

Come on up and Enjoy the Beautiful Fall,

Phil and Ellen Hart
