Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report August 25, 2008
As September closes in, and cooler weather dominates the weeks ahead, serious anglers will be hitting the waters.
All indications thus far represent the beginnings of great Fall fishing. This past week anglers found the majority of walleyes between 26-34', with a few good reports of action at 12-16' in the early evenings.
Slip-sinker rigs with live bait; i.e. minnows and crawlers continue to work well straddling various depths on reef edges.
Jig & minnows enthusiasts doing their thing working depths between 28-35'; reef edges and bottom depressions providing the action.
Expect jig & minnow combinations to dominate the presentation methods. Some anglers will have good luck trolling shorelines with various rapalas working depth break lines.
Northern pike are quite active and have been over the last couple of weeks. Many reports of several pike well over 40", including a 47" were documented.
Most pike being found outside the weed lines in slightly deeper water. Casting artificials or trolling deeper lures along weed lines continue to produce.
Smallmouth catching is a little on the slow side; use lures or spinners on rock pile edges and rock shelves at 12-18'.
Inland lakes on Kabetogama peninsula have provided anglers with lots of largemouth and pike action.
Lots of fish waiting for September anglers; the challenge will be on.
Have a Great Day!
