Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Julie Jamerson from Illinois, planning her vacation in Ft. Lauderdale for her and her family, did her research on attractions in Fort Lauderdale by checking out Trip Advisor and found that Top Shot Fishing was ranked 3rd out of 88 attractions in Fort Lauderdale. So she, her husband, Gregg, and their two daughters, Hayley and Ashley, chartered the Happy Day Today Topshotfishing in Fort Lauderdale to do some deep sea sport fishing.
We had winds out of the east at 7 mph, seas were 2-3 ft., a typical, beautiful day in sunny Fort Lauderdale. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, fishing lines were in the water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale in 120 ft. of water. We put two plainers out both with double hook Bonito strips and sea witches in front. For surface baits we had four Ballyhoos. With 34 artificial wrecks located in Fort Lauderdale, ranging from 60 ft. of water out to 420 ft. and ranging from tugboats to freighters, makes for a great habitat for fish.
I trolled from one artificial wreck to another while the family took turns catching fish. One of the plainer rods got a strike and Julie jumped into the chair to bring the fish in. In 35 years fishing, this catch was the first for me – on the double hook bait on the same rod were two Bonitos, one on each hook, to my amazement!!!! We continued fishing and ended up with a total of 8 Bonitos and 5 Kingfish, one of which weighed 24 lbs – an Anaconda Kingfish, with Ashley as the angler.
Greg wanted to do some Shark fishing so we switched over to accommodate him. We put out one surface Shark bait, one midrange Shark bait and one bottom Shark bait. Not to long afterwards we were hooked on the midrange Shark bait as Ashley jumped into the fighting chair to do battle with the Shark assisted by her father, Greg; they caught a 6 ft. Dusky Shark, which was released. We set up again for Shark fishing and this time the surface rod Shark bait hooked up. Greg jumped into the fighting chair and brought in a 6 ft. Golden Hammerhead Shark. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again.
With smiles on everyone's faces, they retired to the a/c salon for the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
