Yesterday, March 26, 2007, HighNoon had a excellent fishing day. Just outside the harbor we had a triple Ahi strike (giant yellowfin tuna). After a 30 minute fight, we landed our first Ahi of the season about 125 lbs. Putting our lures back in the water, we had another double Ahi strike and landed another one about 100 lbs. This is a bit of a nice surprise since Ahi usually don't show up until later in the springtime. Following that, we lost one Blue Marlin and landed a nice Mahi of about 30 lbs.

Kona's first "Grander" of the year was landed earlier this month. This giant Blue Marlin weighed in at 1012 lbs. March-May is generally a good time for giant Blue Marlin. There are more Blues around during the summer, however the Blue Marlin average larger during the springtime. So it is quality vs quantity during March, April and May Just a few days ago, HighNoon hooked up another monster Blue Marlin estimated at 800 lbs. Unfortunately, it threw the hook about 20 yards from the boat after an hour fight. Nice fish though...and an estatic angler!!

Our fishing this March has been excellent for Blue Marlin...although the Spearfish and Mahi fishing has been a bit slower than usual. I would look for the good Blue Marlin fishing to continue and the Spearfish and Wahoo to begin their springtime runs in April. Having an ocassional giant Ahi strike is a bonus since these fish usually begin biting later in the spring and summer.
