I have been catching a bunch of fish up in the grass. I am throwing several different baits. I am using a 3 ½ inch swim bait that is almost exactly the same size as the shad they are eating. I am throwing that on a hook that has a screw lock on the front of it and a 1/8 oz. weight on the hook. Use a shad color. I am also getting bit on a Wacky Worm pretty good. Use a Lake Fork Tackle Zig Zag in Green Pumpkin. You can throw it on a Mustad 1.0 hook with wire weed guards and a 1/32 ox weight on the hook or you can use the hook that Lake Fork Tackle recommends. They sell a small weighted ring that fits over the Zig Zag. If you get that, you don't need a hook with a weight on it. It's just enough to cause a perfect fall on the worm. Throw this around the creek with grass on both sides and hang on—you will get bit. Most of those fish are smaller but there are a lot of them and they are fun to catch. The other bait I am using is a Small Jig with a Lake Fork Tackle craw as a trailer. I think you can also catch some of these shallow fish on a trap and a small spinnerbait as well. Now let's talk deep stuff. The fish are beginning to show up on the deep structure. This has become a specialty of mine and Heath's fishing skills. We love to catch deep fish. One of the best baits I know of is the Talon Lures ½ oz and 1 oz big spoons. We catch bar fish, and bass on these spoons. Lake Fork Marina is the only place on the lake you can buy them. Or you can go to www.talonlures.com and buy them on line. Be sure and tell them I turned you on to the lures. We also throw some Carolina rigs, and ¾ oz. jigs out in this deep stuff. As soon as we get a couple of big fronts in here that drops the water temp a little more, this deep fishing will pick up more. Right now it's a little sporadic at best. But it won't be long until we are catching some lunker fish out deep. Water temp today is in the mid 60's. I hope all of you have a Happy Thanksgiving, a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Everyone needs to pray for our Country and our leaders. We face some very tough challenges that I'm afraid mere men can not handle. It's time we take our country back over and make it a nation for the people and by the people. No matter how you voted the cards have been delt and now we have to make the best of it. Get involved with your congressmen, representatives and senators and let your voice be heard.
