Lake Fork Trophy Bass Report
May 3, 2007

May is here and has started off with a bang! For
those of you that have assumed that the spawn is over at Lake Fork, I can assure you that it is still going strong! The full moon this week has brought a whole new wave of big fish into the shallows. Even with all the recent storms and rain, there are new fish showing up on beds daily. I attribute this to the cold month of April and the full moon being early in the month.
My clients and I have caught numerous big fish off
beds and in spawning areas this week including a 12.2lb bass yesterday. George Moon was on his annual fishing trip with Martin Gas Co. as he landed this trophy like pro! The good Lord was with us as we worked on this big ole' bedding fish! Congratulations,George!! Water conditions are great with all the recent rains. The lake is close to full and the water clarity is clear on the main lake with some of the creeks being stained from the fresh run off. Water temperatures
have been steady in the 68 to 72 degree range where I have been fishing. The best locations and patterns have varied from one end of the lake to the other depending on what stage of the spawn the fish are in where you are fishing. As I said, there are a bunch of new spawning fish that
have pulled into the shallows as well as fish that are guarding fry and in other areas the fish are starting their post spawn activity. Right now I am targeting areas that these spawners have shown up in and am fishing them with a number of presentations. A weightless fluke in different shades of watermelon have produced a number of quality fish in the spawning coves along with a Grande Stick or Squirm Worm rigged wacky style. Best colors have also been shades watermelon and green pumpkin. www.grandebass.com The topwater bite has also started to take off early in the morning and on overcast days. Frogs, Yellow
Magics, buzzbaits and walking baits like a Zara Spook or Sammy have been enticing some big blow ups. I expect the topwater action to be great this year as the month of May progresses. Flipping a texas rigged Grande 3" Cannibal in watermelon/green pumpkin laminate with a ¼ oz. weight next to stumps in 8-14 ft of water has also caught some nice ones. And if deep water fishing is your strength, it's time to start
checking those deep points, humps, road beds and pond dams for those post spawners. DD 22's, carolina rigs, jigs and big swim baits will catch some huge females that are on the feed from the spawn.
