Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 9/6/08
The first week of September was just ok! The fishing had some good days and some challenging days. The good days offered some great top water action; the tougher days the top water bite was scattered and you had to slow down and back off the grass to find a bite. If you stuck with top water during the tougher days you just had to be prepared for a slower action bite and longer in between hook ups. I believe the key was the cloud cover and wind, earlier in the week we had cover most of the day and the later part of the week was sunny and not much wind.
The baits I used this week, was mainly buzz-baits and buzz frogs on top of the scattered grass. I did catch a few fish with crank baits, as I have been continually looking for the cranking bite to turn on over the scattered grass edges. The fall is generally a great time to catch lots of numbers on crank baits, and the bite is very close.
The schooling fish were not as visible this week and I truly believe that the bait is buried up in the grass as they generally are in September. This will just make the top water bite better as the grass dies over the next few weeks.
Fall fishing is always great on Guntersville, come try it, you'll have some great fun. I have dates available to fish with you!
