Wes Carlton of Georgia Lake Fishing
Lake Burton/Rabun Fishing Report
Spots :The spawn is almost over with a few females hagging around the beds. The
fish that have pulled off the beds are biting topwater (Vixen, Sammys). We had
several fish in the 6lbs range last week and a lot of 3 to 4lbers. These fish
should be biting anything in the next week or two with the postspawn bite in
full swing.
Largemouth: The largemouth are finishing up with spawing as well. We have
had good luck with a white trick worm in the shallows and buzz baits (white).
These fish are hungry and aggresive. Don't be affraid to work the baits a
little faster than normal.
Trout: The trout are biting on top early in the morning (spoons, Gold Hopkins
3/16oz). After about 9am or so try trolling with downriggers or dipsy divers
between 10ft to 20ft deep about 20 to 40ft behind the boat with small crank
baits ( Hammonds YoZuri Harcore). We have had a couple of 20 fish days.
Walleye: The post spawn bite is still on good. Night Crawlers trolled 80ft
behind the boat at about 3/4 mph. Trolling Medium Crappie minnows as well as
Lucky Craft Pointers has been producing the larger fish. We had 2- 7lbs fish
this last week.
Hybrid: The Hybrid Bass are few and far between, but when you catch one it's
going to be a monster! Last week we broke the Lake Burton Record Hybrid with a
12.2lbs fish. We also caught the unofficial Lake Rabun Record Hybrid with a
10.14lbs.
Lake Lanier; The night bite has been great this year with some really big fish
being caught on Long A Bombers, Mc-Sticks SPRO,and Yo-Zuri jerk baits. Blue
colors and natural have beeen working the best. We have had 2 fish over 30lbs
and 19 over 20lbs. This goes to show the stocking efforts by the Department of
Natural Resources are WORKING! Thanks Guys!
