LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT
Lake Ray Roberts is 3 feet lower than normal level with water temperature before the cold spell we are in was 54 to 64 degrees. The much needed rain we are getting is raising the lake level slowly. Large mouth bass fishing was improving with the warming water we were experiencing before the front. We have seen a few fish on beds in the backs of coves but the majority of fish have not moved up yet. This cold front will slow things down again and will probably be a couple weeks before we have a good shallow water bite. We have been covering a lot of water with Rayburn Red XR50's and Black and Blue 1/4 oz. chatterbaits and stating to catch a few on Yum Dingers in junebug color rigged with a splitshot. Carolina rigging in 6 to 10 feet on the first breakline with a blue pumpkin french fry will produce now as well.
Sand bass fishing is very good now and will get better as we head into Spring. We are fishing humps, points, roads, and ridges from Isle du Bois State Park to Wolf Island on the east arm of the lake and some places near the mouths of the creeks north of Wolf Island. There is alot of birds around the lake and they can show you where the sandies are feeding. Catching all our white bass on Cotton Cordell CC Spoons chrome 3/4 oz. with a Flies-By-Night fly tied 14 inches above the spoon. Its a great time to get young people on the lake, catching a bunch of white bass is a good way to get them hooked on fishing. Call or email soon if you want a Spring fishing trip on Ray Roberts, weekend dates are going fast.
Have fun fishing,
Tim
