Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report

Lake Ray Roberts is about a foot and a half lower than normal level with water temperatures 79 to 83. Early fall is a great time to be on the lake with the cool mornings we are having. Also there is very little boat traffic on the lake during the week this time of year. White bass fishing is very good with surface schooling happening every morning. A lot of the schooling is closer to points and shallower water than it was in August. Most mornings the topwater schooling slows about 9:00 am. and the last couple days the deep water bite has been on the rest of the morning. Yesterday when the schooling slowed down we went to deep hump in 30 to 35 feet and was on a good bite the rest of the morning with lots of big sand bass and 6 nice channel cats to ad to ice chest. Today I checked 12 good deep water spots and got a good bite going on 8 of them so It looks like early fall deep water fishing has started strong. For the topwater fish the best bait is my Floatin Thing with a Clear Tiny Torpedoe working well also. We are still catching all of the deep fish on Cotton Cordell 3/4 oz. Chrome CC Spoons with a chartreuse Flies-By-Night fly tied 14 inches above the spoon for doubles. One thing to keep in mind, when jiggin for the deep fish this time of year, is to watch your line. A lot of the strikes occur when the bait is falling before it gets to the bottom and the line jumps although you feel nothing with this kind of bite. Also when you are hopping the bait off the bottom sometimes the fish gets it and your line goes limp on the water and you feel nothing. The deep water fishing will only get better as the water cools down more making for very good fishing fishing the rest of the year. Anybody wanting a fishing trip this fall give me a call or send an email. My weekend days in October and November are starting to fill so get with me soon if you want to reserve a weekend day.

Have fun fishing,

Tim
