Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report

Lake Ray Roberts is at flood stage 640.49 feet. This is 8ft. above normal level and due to flooding all boat ramps and day use areas at the State Parks are closed.

Water is being released right now at 2328 cfs which is slowly dropping the lake level. My best guess would be that the lake facilities will not be open for another month.

I do not have much to report as I was not on the water from June 27th to July 10th. On July 11th I rented a slip at th Marina, which is still operational, and have my boat there now.

Bass fishing is good in the flooded vegetation in 4 to 8 feet of water on points. Have had good early topwater bite this week using a Baby Bass color Pop-R, this morning with overcast sky the topwater bite was good til 11:00 am. Yum Houdini worms 4.75 inch in junebug and watermelon red have been working good also using light weight

Texas rig or split shot rig. Sand bass are schooling as they do every summer but are real sporadic. Combination of high water and water temperature not as warm as it usually is in mid July in North Texas seems to have them messed up. I have seen some schooling actvity on the flats between the Marina and Culp Island for the first time this summer.

Picture below is Johnson State Park picnic area by the beach, I am sure the fish are enjoying the shade from the pavillions and picnic tables.

Have fun fishing,

Tim

Having spent countless hours on Lake Ray Roberts studying maps and searching the depths with electronics, he knows the the main lake structure on Lake Ray Roberts like the back of his hand. Using triangulation, he is as comfortable fishing spots in the middle of the lake as most fishermen are fishing stumps in the back of a creek.
