Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report
Lake Ray Roberts is about 6 inches below normal level with water temperature on the main lake 48 degrees saturday afternoon and warming to upper 50's in protected coves late in the day. Largemouth bass are starting to move up and stage for the spawn and can be caught on Rayburn Red XR50 rattle baits and Booyah Boogie baits in black and blue. Light weight soft plastics and carolina rig will work as the water warms to 60 degrees. As usual in North Texas we have a cold front here as I write this that will cool down the coves and slow down the bass fishing. March on Ray Roberts is not a time to catch a lot of bass but odds of catching a big fish is very good this month.
White bass are still in a winter pattern on Ray Roberts and the size we are catching is big. We are fishing on the east arm of the main lake from Isle du Bois State Park to Wolf island on points, humps, roads and ridges. Best depth this weekend was 28 to 32 feet. We are still catching all these fish on Cotton Cordell CC Spoons 3/4 oz. chrome with a Flies-By-Night fly in sea green color tied 14 inches above the spoon.
The fish are laying real close to the bottom and will take using the zoom feature on your electronics to see them. We have to do more searching in winter to find active fish that will bite but when we do find them the fish are bigger than any other time of the year. It takes a subtle presentation with lots of dead sticking to get these fish to bite in cold water. A sensitive rod is also a must as the bites tend to be real light.
For anybody wanting to book a trip in March, saturday the 22nd is the only weekend day I have open. I do have lots of availability during the week this month.
Have fun fishing,
Tim
