Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report
Lake Ray Roberts is 1 foot below normal level and low to mid 80's water temperature. We have had some cool mornings this week making it very pleasant on the water compared to the heat wave we just had. Bass fishing this week is very good. Fish are acting like the Fall feed is on with the cooler weather. Have had a good topwater bite this week for the first time this summer and its not just an early thing. We have caught fish in the middle of the day on topwaters. Bass are schooling now and some times right in the middle of the day. Catching the topwater fish on Rebel Pop-R's in chrome blue back color. Cotton Cordell Super Spot 1/4 oz. chrome blue back has been producing this week as well and Yum Houdini worms 4.75 in. in june bug or watermelon red using a shaky head or split shot rig has been working.
Sand bass fishing is very good on Ray Roberts this week with schooling happening all over the lake. These fish are schooling on top most mornings and can be caught on topwater baits or anything you want to throw at them when they are up. Fish schooling on top are usually small with some good ones mixed in. To catch bigger fish we are using Cotton Cordell CC Spoons 3/4 oz. chrome with a Flies-By-Night fly tied 14 inches above the spoon. The bigger fish are 30 to 35 feet deep in the same areas where there is topwater schooling. The areas the fish are active in can change day to day so sometimes it takes a lot of looking to find them biting. There is a lot of water from Wolf Island to the marina and there can be schooling sand bass anywhere on the lake right now. Speaking of Wolf Island, below is a pic of some of the deer that live on the island.
Have fun fishing,
Tim
