LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT

Bass fishing is good on Lake Ray Roberts now and the fish are in the grass in 3 to 8 feet on main lake points or secondary points and main lake grass beds. We have been keying on areas heading towards the main lake from the spawning areas. We are not getting as many big fish bites as we were the beginning of May but numbers of fish per trip has improved. My favorite type of fishing is Texas rigged worm fishing in the grass and that is how we have caught most of our fish lately. I am still using 4" junebug Yum Dingers for most of my fishing but other worms and watermelon colors are working as well. Another pattern, that will produce fish now, is deep water Carolina rigging. I have not done much of it yet but caught a 6lbr in 25 feet of water on a hump wednesday morning. I use 3/4 oz. weight and 2 foot leader for this fishing and use french fries or centipedes for bait. The early topwater bite has not been very good for us but have caught a few on buzzbaits. On thursday this week we saw chasing fish over a big grass bed but could not get them to bite anything but the worm. We threw everything at them and had a couple misses for our efforts, then got bit in the worm on the next cast.

Sand bass fishing is good right now also but the fish are on the move. Still catching them on all of the main lake structure spots we always fish but most days you have to cover a lot of water to stay in active biting fish. Birds are few and far between now and have not seen fish under birds on the main lake in about three weeks. We have seen some schooling sandbass recently that were really hard to catch. Best bite was still deep under these schoolers when we saw them schooling. 20 to 35 feet has been the best depth and Cotton Cordell CC spoon 3/4 oz. with Flies-By-Night jig tied about 18" above it is what we are catching most of our fish on. Sand bass have also been on points and over grass beds early and late and can be caught on about whatever you want to throw. On sand bass trips lately we are catching catfish on the jigging spoons in 30 feet of water with the sandbass and thursday, fishing with Dave, we had a double of 3 and 5 lb. catfish while jigging for sand bass.

Have fun fishing,

Tim
