The time is now upon us. This is the only time of year when you may still catch me going out alone to fish because I know the potential is there to catch monster stripers on topwater and there is nothing better. We have already had several incredible days of fantastic topwater action. It is truly a blessing to experience fish up to 10 plus pounds going crazy after your pencil popper, knocking it up into the air and coming back for more. The first hard cold front of the year is scheduled to hit this weekend which should really set things off even more than it already is. It will only last a month by November the pattern will be over and we will have switched to using sassy shad. And though the catching will be just as good in November, there is something special about seeing big fish blow up on your lure and for that you will want to make sure to get in during October.

The topwater bite varies from day to day, as with any fishing some days are better than others. Some days with the right conditions, the topwater bite will last all day but typically the first and last hour of daylight are your most aggressive feeding times. On the days that the topwater bite slows we will switch to bait to finish up the trip.

Casting pencil poppers against shallow wind blown points is the best way to target these fish, when you find a good spot you may want to cast anchor out in front of it to work it a bit longer undisturbed. After it slows down, keep moving but you can always back track to your best spots as the fish will sometimes come back. After the topwater bite is over, drifting bait in around 20ft. of water on a flat has been working best for catching nice fish to finish the limit.

Our first strong cold front of the year is scheduled to hit this weekend. That should really set things off and make those fish aggressive. Morning and evening trips should be equally productive on average. My weekends are booked up for October but I have lots of availability during the week. I practice the gift economy meaning I have flex rates based on the average rate of $125/person. If you can not afford that rate or you felt that the fishing or my performance did not meet your expectations, no worries simply pay what you feel the trip is worth to you. I am grateful for all that is given to me as it allows me to continue doing what I love to support my family. I am just happy to be on the water so bring whatever you have to offer and let's go fishing. You can book your trip online at www.stripersinc.com or give me a call anytime at (90)815-1609. I'll be looking forward to fishing with you.
