Paul and his 8 year old son, Neils came aboard for a couple of trips. The two days were challenging as we tried as many spots as possible to find clean water and to locate fish. The wind was blowing out of the east 15 to 20 knots and the bay was again stirred up. Several of our first stops were choppy and dirty.
I anchored up on a nice grass flat and started to chum the area. We caught lady fish, mackerel and even a small shark. We also caught the infamous sail catfish. After playing with these fish awhile, it was time to move. We needed cleaner water to continue our search for the targeted species, redfish and trout.
I went up into the mangroves and the water was cleaner there but no redfish. Next location was across the bay, where the water was undisturbed and also very clean.
I set up along a sea wall where redfish like to hangout. I threw out a few pieces of chum and that's all it took. First Paul hooked up and then Neils for a double header. Both fishermen did a fantastic job bringing in the fish, especially 8 year old, Neils. The fish were both 27 inches and weighed 7 1/2 lbs each. A few minutes later, Paul hooked up again with a nice 25 inch fish and then his son struck copper for his second red. This was Paul's largest red and Neils first. Way to go guys.
Things settled down at this location so we headed in for pictures.
No matter what the conditions are, stick with your spots, move offten and look for clean water. Also keep the faith and don't give up, you will find the fish.
