Sight fishing along Florida's Space Coast has been good reports Captain Keith Mixon (www.mixinworkwithplay.com). Around Port Canaveral, mangrove snapper continue to aggressively feed on live shrimp around the jetties. Calm conditions and an outgoing tide have been the right combination for these fish measuring up to 15 inches.
In addition, large jacks have been attacking top water lures and scented jerk baits throughout the port. With an average weight of six to eight pounds, these fish can put up an awesome fight.
In the Indian River north of Titusville, several redfish measuring up to 30 plus inches have been caught and released during mid-morning hours. With an average depth of three feet or less, artificial lures such as gold spoons and Bass Assassin's Good Penny 4" BLURP Shrimp have worked exceptionally well on light tackle. The equipment that I recommend using is a seven foot medium light action rod and spinning reel combo with ten pound test braided line and about ten inches of mono leader. When sight casting for reds, anglers will need to be patient with these fish that can easily be spooked.
