Benny Blanco

This report is from my client Michael Grimm:

It was a long overdue trip in which I invited Scott and new fishing buddy Payam to join me on. Although I am not usually one to plan a trip in advance, this time was an exception and I'm glad I did.

We met Captain Benny at the marina around 7:30 and were off shortly later in a beautiful 22-pathfinder tournament edition. This boat was awesome. We were able to reach speeds of 50mph to get to the fishing grounds fast. Any chop thrown at us was just sliced like butter.

The fishing started out by hitting a bait spot that held pilchards and minnows. I joined the captain in netting bait and we were off to the fishing areas shortly after blacking out the baitwell.

For the rest of the day we proceed to cast live pilchards into creeks and structure in attempts to pull out snook and redfish. The snook were cooperating as we got several nice fish. Mixed in with the snook were trout and 1 redfish.

We then hit a cove area in which we were able to sight tarpon. Scott was up with his artifical bait "The Hogy" and within minutes had a nice fish take it! The hook didn't stick but that is the second trip in which the Hogy didn't miss the attention of a tarpon.

On the way in we hit a few more spots for smaller tarpon and had fun with them.

All in all a great trip and I can't wait to get on out the flats soon.

About The Author: Captain Benny Blanco

Company: Fishing Flamingo

Area Reporting: Flamingo and Florida Everglades

Bio: I've been fishing in Everglades National Park for many years, in everything from the rented skiffs available at Flamingo Marina to my new 21' Hewes Redfisher. The water has been my home away from home since I was barely big enough to carry my rod to the nearest fishing hole. I grew up learning the canals and fresh water lakes of South Florida. Once I got tired of catching the same bass over and over, I discovered the larger saltwater fish and was hooked for good.
