I had the pleasure of fishing the great Logan Martin Lake for 4 days this past week .I fished with Ryan Welsh and his dad Brent.Ryan is one of the Jr.Bassmasters competitors preparing to compete on Feb.18th.He won the Wisconsin state federation championship for his age group,(he is 14)and one of the best anglers for his age that I've ever fished with.We caught a ton of fish and ended up with some very promising areas for him to fish in his tournament.Mostly big Spots,I caught my biggest Spot ever, big enough that I could stick my fist completely into it's mouth, now that's a big spot,Brent has a digital photo of it that he is going to send me.My digital scales briefly read 7lb.4oz.and then went blank.I think that was very close to an accurate weight judging by the legnth and girth,I'll post the pic when I get it and you all can decide.I caught it on a jerkbait in about 3 ft. of water. We caught a 4 1/2lb. and some 4lb.s and several 2 to 2 1/2lbs. mostly on crankbaits and Invader Jigs around boathouses. The lake is at winter pool(down about 4 or 5 ft.) so most of the boathouses are high and dry.I wish the best of success to Ryan and I enjoyed his and his dad's company they are truly great people.I'll be working the Huntsville boat show with Dawson Boat Center this week, hope to see you there.I would like to thank Chris Jackson for the use of his prop so I could finish a trip on Dec.29th and I'm glad to here that you're back on the water,Thanks Dude.Be Safe and God Bless,Jim Burks
