Well....The first official Maine Striper fishing trip of the 2008 season for Super Fly Charters went well for us today. We left the dock at 8:00 am this morning, little late by our standards...The tide was still flooding the river with colder 51 degree water, so we decided to try our luck by fishing the warmer water located upriver in the marsh area. We found the warmer water alright 59.9 degrees and the river was plugged full of alewives. We started out by casting large alewive fly patterns with sinking head lines, 400 grain, it didn't take long to connect with the first Striped Bass, a fat six pounder of around 25 inches. As we picked our way up into the narrow section of the river, nervous baitfish flipped & splashed across the surface of the river. We found a nice school of eager schoolie Stripers that were all to willing to pounce on our flies and rubber shad baits....The action waned as the tide slacked. Our final tally was around a fifteen fish...not too bad for a morning of fishing in late May...
Reservations continue to come in for the 2008 season!!!
