We caught a mako shark today on our sportfishing charter. Our charter told us this morning that they wanted to catch something big, so we went out to shark fishing territory and set our spread. We weren't getting and bites to start, so we started dropping down a multi-hook rig for tilefish. The tilefish were snapping, we probably caught 25 tilefish. With only 1/2 hour left to fish, we finally got the shark bite. The fish pulled off a big run right on the bite and then shot right up to the surface. Not many sharks act in this erratic behavior. When the shark was about 100 ft away from the boat, he jumped about 10feet of out of the water, doing a somersault as he flew through the air. It was an awesome sight. Mako sharks are one of the only sharks that we catch that jump out of the water, and they jump higher than any other shark. Great fishing in Ft Lauderdale this week. Shark fishing season is just getting started. Get ready to catch some monsters.
