With temps way above normal for the month of March in Buffalo N.Y. The eastern basin of
Lake Erie has no ice . This would be the first time in over 27 years of fishing that i caught smallmouth in early March. With the water temp riseing ,erie is holding at 41.Casting tube baits and jerk baits in shallow rocky areas. That is were most of the smallies are .Deeper water spots (21 to 35)are holding smallmouth also .Dropping the tube bait down and dead sticking the bait is producing bites. With spring around the corner and water temps on the rise the smallie action is going to get even better. Perch on the lake are also bitting . 45 ft of water .A jig tiped with a emerald shinner will bring in all the Perch you can handle.
