The bite is on for dolphin in Fort Lauderdale. Every March, the dolphin come into the inside edge of the gulfstream to spawn. We call it the March dolphin spawn. For about 2 weeks, we have some of the most awesome dolphin fishing that we get to see all year here in Ft Lauderdale. A lot of schoolies are starting to bite, and some of the biggest bulls of the year will get caught during this spawn too. We caught a monster bull aboard the Big Game this week, probably over 50 pounds. It was the biggest one we've seen this year so far. Sailfish, wahoo and tuna are also in attendance on the reefs and biting great out there. Dolphin usually get everything stirred up. Trolling is the most effective method to fish these dolphin during their spawn, but the biggest bulls will get caught live baiting with the kites or slow trolling 'liveys' from the outriggers.

On days when there is a lull in the dolphin action, switch over and hit the wrecks. This is the beginning of amberjack season and the wrecks are already laden with monster jacks. Any wreck in 150-300ft of water is loaded with amberjacks and almacos, as well as some grouper and cobia. Many of the groupers we catch around the wrecks are out of season for a couple more months, but some species of grouper can still be kept. A lot of big game sharks are also lurking nearby these wrecks and love to scarf up an easy meal. We're catching some 40-50 pound jacks bit in half by a 400+ pound bull shark. Wind 'em in quick before something bigger eats 'em. The Fort Lauderdale fishing is going off this month. Get out there and get some of the best fishing action Fort Lauderdale has to offer all year. Good luck and tight lines.
