Captain Judy's Saltwater Fishing Report

Freshies Report
Matthew Canipe (Age 12) Part Two!
In last week's report I wrote about Matthew and his father Harold. The father and son duo had a memorable fishing day in regards to catching large mouth bass with the old "trick worm." Matthew's grandfather Don Taylor was also on our saltwater fishing trip. As we talked, I picked up my pen so I could make some notes, because Don was offering up some great fresh water fishing suggestions. Here are several shorts that Don shared with me!
For those of you that are targeting bream for the day Don has this special bait that he uses and it's accessible in most places. He simply gathers up spider webs, balls them up, and stick them the hook. Bream go crazy for them. According to Dan he's not sure whether it's cobweb's taste or the white color that brings the fish to the hook! It suggested that you leave the spiders out of this mix!
Don likes to do a little bottom fishing every now and then. He likes to use cut up bream as bait. The first thing I thought was "catfish bait." However, what came out of don't mouth didn't match up to what I was thinking. He has caught some of the largest large mouth bass he has ever seen using this bait design.
As we talked I knew I had found some one to talk with that was from the "old school of fishing and catching!" Here's another one for the record books: Don of which has fished for many years knows that changes need to be made when artificial applications are made. I'm not talking about artificial lures either, but whether man made ponds and lakes. According to Don "new fishing ideas" are needed to successfully attack these man made fish holding areas. So-called saw grass that covers the surface of these areas is a great place to start. Don suggests basically throwing your lure on top of the grass, waiting a few seconds, and then moving it just enough as to pull your lure into the water. Here's the twist to this style of bait presentation. At this point it's up to you whether the bait introduce to the water is to play dead or not! In other words you can just let it sink, make it flounder, or even do the jitterbug! It's up to you! The bottom line to this suggestion is simple. It's your dance so you take the lead!
