May has been a great month to go fishing in Pensacola. At the start of the month the spanish and trout were on fire inside and just out in the gulf. Most of our morning trips started out inside live baiting for our big spawning trout. Using mainly live croakers and also some top waters when the wind wasnt blowing.
As the sun goes up we usually would end up down by Pensacola pass to target spanish mackerel. Spoons were the go to casting and on the troll. When they werent cooperating on artificials we would free line shrimp over structure to try and trick them into biting.
May usually brings the kingfish as well! We had several morning with great king trips. Mostly live baiting around structure or the buoys in the pass when the bait was hard to come by we would troll crank baits and caught several on dusters as well. Kings are one of our favorite species to target for their size and there speed, they can pull some line off a reel!
Amber jacks and trigers have been biting decent offshore as well with many big fish caught off of pensacolas nearshore wreck. But June brings a close to triggerfish and amberjacks. We will switch our tackel out and get ready for our busy season and start targeting Red Snapper. With so many nearshore wrecks off of Pensacola the snapper fishing in out area is second to none. We dont have to go far to target them as are waters drops off quick so we can get you out and on the fish fast.
