Milwaukee Fishing Salmon Reports 5/17/2010
By Capt. Jim Hirt
May Coho season is in full swing. Great numbers on these tasty 4 pound fish is being enjoyed by all. As a bonus we have found a presentation for Chinooks in the 4-6 pound range. A combination of Chinooks and Coho is filling the box up quickly. Let me tell you where and what to use. To see my video fish report go to http://www.jimhirt.com
For Coho you can't go wrong with 6-inch orange flashers and dodgers with blue or green small flies. Spoons in most sizes in green and yellow with glow paint has been also working well. My best fly has been the Aqua Johnny fly. The Reaper Fish Fry glow spoon in regular or magnum is an answer to anglers that do not do well with flashers and flies.
For Chinook an all spoon presentation of any size in green glow gets the job done. The Reaper Fish Fry from Badger Tackle is providing steady action.
Coho are south of the main gap in 80 to 150 feet of water in the top 40 feet. Chinook are in the same area with a deeper presentation of 45 to 60 down on downriggers 60 feet behind the ball
The boat speed of 1.9 to 2.2 gave the best results. Vulcans, Nestor Wobblers and Reapers are sold only on the web at http://www.badgertackle.com Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!!
