Captain Judy's Saltwater Fishing Report
Which includes:
Inshore report, Offshore Report, Freshies Suggestions, and "Little Miss Judy's Believe It or Not!" (story)
Miss Judy Charter's South Carolina Connection
Captain Wally
According to the report bottom fishing was down and up at the Needle and the hump. This area can offer a fisherman a lot of action, but the fish definitely have their moments! The reason being is that bottom fishing especially can be a little tough, because of the warm ocean water temperatures. Bottom fish are known especially at this time to move further offshore to find their comfort zone. The good news is that when you do get a good bottom bite it can be "HOT, BUT ALSO VERY ISOLATED!"
Captain Wally spent some quality fish catching time around R-7 naval tower. This area has been holding the attentions of King/Spanish mackerel, barracuda, and little tunny. This tower makes a great "center of your universe" with trolling. I suggest working the tower making sure that you pull by each leg of the tower and then move off working the outer areas. When you work an area such as this, where fish stage in group's engine noise can spread them out, but not away. The rule of thumb when fishing isolated spots like this is to develop some sort of trolling pattern. The best way to troll is to do what I call "bull's eye." This is where you work the tower (this is center of your bull's eye) and then make ring type movements getting further and further away from the structure. When you get hooked up mark that spot and then make it the "bull's eye!" The boils down to where you have fish you have fish!
Captain Wally also worked some of the artificial reefs in South Carolina waters. He fished the Beaufort 45, Betsy Ross, and Gordon. These areas have lot of artificial bottom, which attracts baitfish, which attracts larger fish. According to the report it was a little slow catching at the Beaufort and Gordon. However, he did catch some Spanish mackerel and landed a nice cobia while trolling spoons at the Betsy Ross. The bottom line to this report is a simple one: Just Fish! Thanks Captain Wally for being our South Carolina connection!
Captain Ken Kennickell of Miss Judy Charters fished the Betsy Ross this past week and had a super day catching Spanish and king mackerel. Heck, after a little trolling the customers wanted to do a little bottom fishing, which also turned out to be exciting. The group caught keeper black sea bass and Atlantic Sharp nose sharks.
