Talk about a mixed bag of fish! That's exactly what I had yesterday the 8th of November in Jacksonville Florida.
I made a run to the north to check out a few spots for Flounder. The Flounder just weren't laid up good. Even though we caught several they were very very small. With the water temperature still in the mid 70's I don't think the Flounder have really started there push to the ocean for the winter. At least that's what I'm counting on…
So that's the Flounder in the bag! We also caught some Black Drum about 10 total with the average size being 15 inches or so. That was fun while it lasted. The puppy drum are a lot of fun on light tackle and usually when you find some you will catch quite a few. Dead shrimp is as good a bait as you can get for the Drum.
Then it was off for some Trout. We were throwing soft plastics for the Trout and for about an hour they were on fire. Most of the fish were in the 14 to 15 inch range we did boat on that was 24 inches and several in the 17 inch range. Also along with the Trout we caught a Sea Robin and a Blow fish on the plastics. It was the biggest Sea Robin I have ever caught inshore.
Then it was off to try to end the morning with some Red fish. They weren't the size we were looking for but there where plenty of them. Rat reds are what we call the small ones and when you get on them it is hard to leave. For about an hour it was every cast and the fish were all about 14 inches or so. I have a hard time leaving a bite like that even if they are small. All in all we caught at least 50 plus fish that morning and in my book that's a great trip.
