Tuff Tuff Tuff Day. Saturday was challenging to say the least. With a morning outgoing high tide and beautiful Tampa Bay Florida weather our hopes were high. We made a long run north to Weedon Island and found conditions different from the lower bay. Bait was nowhere to be found, no birds, dolphins or mullet. After a couple hours of searching we ran back to the Skyway Bridge area.
Bait took just a few minutes unlike the upper bay. We ran to the eastside looking for snook and found the bite slow. The weather was changing rapidly we could actually see the clouds of the cool front approaching. I could see snook cruising the shoreline getting them to take bait was another story.
A handful of small snook, a few snapper along with several ladyfish was about it. Water temperatures were great at 75. Calls from fellow Captains along with updates back at O'Neill's Marina were basically the same as what I encountered.
Lots of good days ahead as fall weather takes hold. Redfish and snook action will turn on. Kingfish season will jump into high gear along with Mackerel and Bonita. Spotted Sea Trout action will only get better as we head towards winter and cooler water temperatures.
