Launched the boat before dawn the last several days.(not as easy on New Years Day) Early morning can be magical for schools of rolling happy fish. New Years day was overcast and calm. We found schools of fish though out the day along with some larger singles laid up on channel edges. Gurglers and chartruse toad flys were both effective.

Unfortunatly a cold front arrived that night. This will change the flats fishing. Cooler water temperatures will send tarpon, permit and bones into deeper water. They will return when things warm back up. However this will flood the flats with BIG cudas. These fish are fast, aggresive and can make some amazing leaps. If you have a heart condition I recomend something tamer... Cobia, sea trout and jack crevalle are also making an appearence on the gulf edges.

10 more weeks and the front runners of the tarpon migration will begin to trickle in...

Tight lines!
