Todd Hoff 2006
My wife Kathy and I went to Cedar Lake Lodge in the middle of September 2005. What a beautiful time of year to visit. The leaves are turning and the fish are bitting! We enjoyed excellent walleye fishing, but the highlight for me are the muskies!

It was a Wednesday morning after a stormy night. We decided to sleep in thinking the fishing would be poor from the storms. After breakfast we loaded up the boat and headed out about noon to chase some muskies. We traveled only 3 minutes by boat to the fishing spot where we saw a few fish over the last couple of days. We had no idea what the afternoon would bring. On Kathy's second cast over the rock reef a 40 inch muskie was chasing the brown bucktail to the boat only to disappear into the deep water. It was 12:05 and the action had already started. By 2:30 that afternoon we had raised at least 10 fish to the boat. I knew it was just a matter of time. In all the excitement I found myself starring at a serious backlash. Little did I know what a good thing this turned out to be. It forced me to strip out all the line, reset the drag and tie on a new bait. I decided on a 8" jerk bait. On the first cast I watched the muskie in my hands follow the jerk bait and only 5 feet from the boat it decided to eat it! I watched him open his mouth and clamp his jaws down on the wooden bait. I set the hook and the battle was on! The fish went under the boat and gave me a shower from the turmoil of top water explosions going on from the other side of the boat. WOW what a thrill. 43" long and 19" girth. Way too much fun!
