Fishing along Florida's Space Coast has been good reports Captain Keith Mixon (www.mixinworkwithplay.com). In the past week, several trout weighing up to four pounds have been caught at first light near S.R. 405 in the Indian River. Top water lures fished with a slow retrieve have worked exceptionally well along the grass flats in three to four feet of water. A seven foot medium action spinning reel combo rigged with ten pound test Power Pro braided line and mono leader has helped to bring several of these fish to the boat.
In addition, many slot size redfish have not been able to resist a live pinfish or mullet when rigged under a cork. Many of these reds have been caught near mangrove shorelines with steep drop-offs as well as the grass flats. Circle hooks have been used for an easy release. This is especially true along the eastern shore line of the Banana River during the last hour or so of the day. When using artificial lures, Nemire's ¼ oz. Spin Ripper Lure-Spinner Bait- 24 Kt. Gold Single Blade has worked equally well near schools of bait fish (mullet).
