Opening day started with snow and strong winds but improved as the day and weekend went on. Walleyes were in we in various stages of spawn with good reports from people who found the active spawning areas. If you were off the those areas fishing was hit and miss. Nice fish could be found deep but you had to keep moving from spot to spot.

Conditions did improve during the week and water temps finally got over 50 degrees. By the second weekend the weeds had just begun to pop up so the post spawn walleyes should be moving to the weed beds soon. Crappies are beginning to stack up in their staging areas and should be moving shallow soon. Bluegills are still deep. The next few weeks should bring great fishing as the weather and water finally warms.
