This week has been a mix of trips both shiner and artificial.Shiners have won
hands down.On Tuesday I fished with Ed, Brian and Evan on a full day
shiner trip. The bites were a little slow and 10 fish were caught weighing
between 4 and 6 pounds.Lost a few big fish that just didn't stay hooked up.
Wed was the worst day I have seen fishing sense last Dec.I had an artificial
trip with Ray and Chuck.I knew we were in for a tough day when the air temp
was at 46 degrees and the water temp was 59 degrees. We took a long ride
south on the river looking for shad and schooling fish.We didn't see either
and we had a big ZERO for this 6 hr trip. Not one bite. The High Pressure
and Cold Front shut the fish down completely.
Friday I fished with a regular client Tony J and it was not much better
then Wed but we did catch a few nice fish and miss a few fish on this 6 hr trip.
Today I had the 3 M's Mike Mark Matt in town for the first day of their
5 day fishing trip. With the artificial fishing being so tough the past couple days
we were quick make the choice to shiner fish. This was the right move and
it was nice to to see some big fish once again.
Matt had a great day and got things started early with a beautiful 10 LB St
Johns River Trophy Matt also had one 7.8 and 5.8 today..
We had a lot of big fish today that we seen busting these big shiners
but just not eating them. It's heart breaking to watch a 10 inch shiner
getting knocked 3 feet out of the water and the big bass coming out of the water
and hitting them but just not wanting to eat the bait.
I think with the water temps back in the 70's today and this big high pressure
moving on we will see a major turn around the next couple days and fishing will
get back to the way it should be here in Central, FL during the spring.
We should be having 20 to 50 fish days this time of the year on artificial
and I fully think those kind of days are just around the corner.
