Fishing report for the week ending 1/10/10 We have gotten ourselfs of to a heck of a start to the new year, the good news is its got to get better. As I am writing this report the air temperature is 34, it feels like 24 and I would not hazzard a guess at the water temperature. Fish are struggling to stay alive in this cold, I have lived in South West Florida for thirty years and have seen three or four fish kills do to the cold. This period of cold weather seems to have come on slowly enough to allow the fish especially the snook to get into deeper water, when it comes on quickly it can be devistating. Our trout and redfish that had settled into there winter homes were pushed away with temperatures they could not tolorate. Fishing on tuesday in 40 degree air with north 20 mph wind we had to fish canals for sheepshead and small redfish. A cut in half shrimp on a 1/0 hook with a splitshot on the bottom worked for the few fish that ate this day.
Thursday was the same with warmer air and less wind, but also a slow bite. The good news is that by wednesday we should be warming up.
