The summer heat is here as well as the rising water temps, but this should not stop you from fishing. The early morning and evening fishing has been excellent on the flats with many Trout caught on artificial and live baits. The bigger Trout have been in the deeper holes. The average size of these fish range from 1 to 6 pounds. The flats are also holding ladyfish and schools of Jacks. These Jacks are great for top water action, and for those who love non-stop action.

"The spawn is on". The big spawning Snook are in the inlets now and also on the beaches. The best baits to use are live Greenies, Sardines or Croakers. The Snook have been averaging 10 to 25 pounds. Please use circle hooks, and handle these fish with care. Those seeking to catch the Snook of there life this is the time to do it. This also makes for great fishing for the kids. Also on the beaches are huge Jacks ranging from 20 to 35 pounds, these fish will put a beating on you with light tackle. Any crank bait lure will work along with live bait. The night fishing for Snook has also been great with many docks in my area holding 50 to 100 Snook. The outgoing tide has produced the most fish, with shrimp and small greenies being the bait of choice.

The Incoming tide will produce some catches also, but try to fish the last two hours of the tide change. Sticking with the night theme the Tripletail has been abundant lately around dock lights and pilings. These fish will hit just about any bait thrown near them. The average size has been 2 to 7lbs. The snapper bite is also great at night; just about every dock in my area holds good size snapper. These feisty fish love live shrimp, but will take a greenie any chance they get. The Lox River fishing has been great for the smaller common Snook. The Fat Snook are still feeding around the area docks taking live shrimp and greenies; many of these fish are 18 to 24 inches. The sheepshead are on the seawalls and near dock pilings along with the lane and mangrove snappers. Live shrimp will do the trick for all these species. The Jacks have been mixed in followed by the Ladyfish (poor mans Tarpon).

The freshwater fishing has not slowed one bit. The Largemouth Bass are still active and many of them are on the grassy shorelines chasing Shad pods all over. Live shiners near drop offs will produce some trophy fish, and those who like to throw artificial, rattletraps and crankbiats are the bait of choice. The average size large mouth has been 2 to 8 lbs with many break offs, leaving you guessing to how big they were. The Peacock bass fishing has been phenomenal with many days producing 10 to 15 fish on live shiners and arterials. We site fish for the most of the fish. When we spot the peacocks we literally site on top of them, and watch them take the baits. Its like have your own peacock bass aquarium. The average size fish is from 1 to 5lbs. Those who like to test there luck can try to hook a peacock on a micro rod and reel with 4 lb test line. This will get your heart pumping. Well this is the fishing report for the past few weeks.
