Desmond Patterson Great Inshore Trolling Secrets Revealed
December 22, 2008
I ran into Desmond Patterson yesterday at the tackle shop and he shared some interesting information with me. Mr. Patterson has been known in the fishing world as the Fisherman that always uses artificial lures as bait. His specialty for many years is catching large spotted sea trout. Believe me he is still doing it. On his last outing with Chris Haze they caught over 40 large trout while trolling.
Mr. Patterson's Trolling Suggestions
According to Mr. Patterson you should always fish the incoming tide stage. This means pick a time where you can start your trolling event when the tide starts rolling in. Now if it's cold water times, such as now, try going on a days where you have a low tide in the middle of the day. Here's an example: On December 23, 24, and 25, 2008 we had a mid day low tide stage. These were great tides, because in the mid day there is normally some sort of a warming trend. This is means feeding opportunities are good for all involved "for the bait, for the fish, and for to the fisherman!"
According to Mr. Patterson the creeks and rivers are his targeted areas to troll. He suggested trolling about 10 to 12 feet off the oyster line. Not only do this approach catch you fish, but it also keeps you from hanging up so much. Most of Mr. Patterson fish are caught in this strike zone of 10 to 12 feet off the bank.
Once you have found the fish you can stop, anchor, and pitch to them or you can just keep trolling the area. Mr. Patterson likes trolling the area instead of anchoring up! His favorite lure is called a 21/2 to 31/2 "darting shad" and Renosky Lures, Inc makes them! Whatever you do don't forget your dip net!
You are going to be hearing a lot about these lures especially at the inshore schools scheduled on January 31, 2009 and February 21, 2009. We still have spots left, please call to 912 897 4921 to sign up!
