Honolulu - Saltwater Fishing Report
All i can say is WOW! The weather and fishing has been as good as it gets. The lack of cold fronts and wind has the tailing bonefish in an ideal pattern. With the proper tide, the action is non-stop. Three to five tails can be spotted at once and these are not little fish. I expect to see large fish this time of year but not in the numbers as of late. We have had some exciting hookups but getting such a beast to the boat for a picture is no easy task. For me, fooling such wary prey and experiencing the sound of the screaming drag is VICTORY!
The bonefish of hawaii are very large due to the extreme latitude. The constant water tempartures make ideal conditions year round. We never see sub 70 degrees unlike florida that can get as cold as low 60's making the flats rather empty.
Many of the flats here remind me of the out islands of the bahamas. The lush mountain backdrop is an added bonus. Many days we don't even see another boat! Runs to fish are very short so fishing time is maximized. Next week, the book is filling up and if these conditions continue i hope to have some nice pictures to post.
I'd like to wish everyone a happy and safe New Year and really hope to get you out in the wonderful fishery!
